· I'm not much of a cyclist. Will I keep up?
The Trans Israel journey is not a race, it's all about you, going through a unique experience by cycling across the country. There for we try to create in advance, an homogeny group as much as possible. Having that said, if a rider is dropping back more than the defined cut-off time, he will need to embark the escorting car that will move him forward to the leading group.
· What kind of physical fitness is required?
The course topography includes everything. From long steep climbs, rolling hills, long flats to fast descends and so on.
The average distance cycled every day is about 100 mile(160K). It means this course is for a well trained cyclist that can ride more then 5-6 hours daily going through challenging terrains.
If you ride/train on a regular basis 2-3 times a week, 1.5-3 hours (25-70 mile) each ride, doing different terrain then you probably fit enough to do the Trans Israel.
If not, then you probably need to start this routine 4-5 months before the due date.
· Do you take breaks?
Yes. We stop for some short sightseeing, recuperating stops in which we refill our water bottles, get some bananas and dates and at mid day we have a light meal.
· Do I need to bring my own bike, or you can provide me with a bike ?
If needed, we can arrange a road bike for you upon having your bike size in advance. We can offer a basic-medium range (aluminum/carbon) road bike based on the supplier available stock at the time.
Because of the challenging course, riding long hours, we strongly recommend that you will bring your own bike, which fit you perfectly and on which you feel "at home". This will help you go through the day more easily.
· What if I have a problem with my bike on the tour?
We have on hand a TREK ISRAEL mechanic fully equipped escorting us from start to finish. Any repair required during the journey, means an additional charge that is paid directly to the mechanic himself.
· How safe is the tour?
Traveling Israel is very safe. We are not going through the west bank, Gaza or any other Palestinian territories. We will be riding on main roads and road safety wise, we are escorted with leading car in the front and closing car at the back, in order to create a "safe riding section" on the road. This is made to make sure that passing cars, will notice us, low down their speed and pass us safely.
· Do the guides talk about the sights? Is there time for photographs?
Yes. We will stop from time to time in certain point of interest and there will be time to take photographs. We also have our people take pictures of the participants along the way, which will be available for you.
· What about bad weather (rain/high temperatures)?
Our journey is scheduled to the more suitable seasons of the year. Even so, in case of severe weather which can be hazardous to the riders, a reevaluation will be made whether it is safe to start cycling that day. If we will decide that the conditions are not suitable to start cycling, shortening or completely canceling a certain day are an option.
· What do I need to bring for the tour?
Beside the general things you need to bring, regarding cycling equipment required for the cycling days you should consider bringing:
- 3-4 sets of cycling clothing (jersey & tights/bib)
- 3-4 cycling shocks
- 1-2 summer hand sleeves
- Light windbreaker vest
